India's rank in the World Press Freedom Index- 2019 has dropped down to 140 from 138th rank in 2018, which is two points below compared to the last year. While the Norway has secured 1st rank, for the third time, in the Index followed by Finland and Sweden.
About the Report
The, World Press Freedom Index, report is published annually by The Reporters Without Borders (RSF), based on the level of Press Freedom in 180 Countries.
The report is partly based on the questions asked about the Media independence, Pluralism, suitable environment and Legal framework for the Media, Transparency and Infrastructure including violations of the free flow of information on the Internet.
The main factors, as per the report, of hitting the current ranking of the India are: Violence against journalists, including police violence, attacks by maoist fighters & retaliation by corrupt Politicians and Criminal outfits.
